Refugees On The Syllabus

The Federal Government has spent $100,000 defending its reputation on refugees to school children. A spokesman for the Immigration Minister, Amanda Vanstone, said the money had been spent on 28,000 information kits 22,000 of which had been sent to schools as a part of its ``Australia says YES to refugees" campaign. Labor's immigration spokesman, Stephen Smith, said the kits were ``glossy propaganda". But Senator Vanstone said they were designed to ``present the facts . . . about Australia's current and historical support for refugees".
